If ever a decade displayed the full range of emotions it is this. The Blues challenged and entertained during the early part of the decade, becoming founder members and key figures behind the creation of the Premier League, but in 1997 dropped to the third level of English football for the only time – the club’s lowest ever level. Under Joe Royle a fighting spirit was established – with the motto Pride In Battle becoming the rallying cry – and with everything appearing lost he regenerated the side. A dramatic play-off final in 1999 became the defining game as City were re-born. The early decade heroes such as Niall Quinn, Uwe Rosler, Peter Reid, Keith Curle and Peter Beagrie were joined by players who typified City’s fightback such as Andy Morrison and Shaun Goater.

A memorable day for all city fans which grasped the hearts of everyone present at the old Wembley stadium. I was 12 years old with my uncle K*ob Head and we were on our way out of the stadium as Gilingham scored their second goal….. that was until Kevin Horlock scored what seemed to be a consolation…..surely we couldnt pull this back with the 2 minutes of time remaining???
OOOOOOOOHHHH YESSSSS, YOU BEAUTYYYYY as my uncle fell down the stairs after jumping in delight! Paul dickov to the rescue!!!
The scene was set for a wonderful penalty shootout and citys saviour Nicky Weaver ran a short marathon before being mauled by his jubilant team mates!!!!
I know we havent won much for a while but ur always sure City will bring a bit of excitement into your life!!
CITY TILL I DIE!!

As a favour to a friend, I agreed to tag along to Manchester City v Blackpool which was the first Match in City’s first season in the 3rd tier of English Football. I only vaguely attached myself to the Club at the time so attending was more a chance to watch Football in the sunshine over anything else. City ran out 3-0 winners and I couldn’t think of a reason to not attend again. I’ve never looked back. Anything else happening on top is a bonus as far as I see it.

my first game, was a dire 1-1 draw with Wimbledon at Maine Road.
Mark Ward scored an equalising penalty right infront of me (in the Platt Lane end- past a moustached Nigel Martin), whilst my dad listened to the England v France grand slam decider on someones radio.
i was only 8, but hooked ever since. i just gazed at the kippax for most of the game, freezing cold.
i dont understand why i went back, i still dont understand why i go now. the best thing about it though is reading all the other memories, like wembley, and derby wins. at first i thought how lucky, but my first match was a shocker, i know what to expect each week, and if you go often enough once in a blue moon, you’ll actually enjoy it.
KEEP THE FAITH!

My first man city game was when i was aged seven and it was against Northampton. I can remember being in the Kippax and because we was that high up i felt sick!!
The game was a 0-0 and i think it was michael brown who was closest to scoring but his long range shot ws well saved!!
Also in that season i managed to get Wembley tickets and went to watch the mighty blues beat Gillingham on penalties!!!!!

My first city match was against Ipswich Town, Friday 16th August 1996, i was 7 and Ipswich Town was also my dads first game. His was Saturday 28th February 1970. Coincidently both matches ended 1-0 with the scorer of my match being Lomas and his was Lee. Ill never forget the intensity of our fantastic support when i stepped out, a true fan knows their home when they see their team even so young…

My first game was at Maine Road 1991 against Arsenal. A friend who i met in a holiday at mallorca. Paul, Thank You, Paul, took me and my mate who are from sweden to the game. He had Seasoncards that we borrowed. I can still see David White running at me to celebrate his goal with the fans in the corner. One of those rare wins against Arsenal that im glad to have seen. and remember that we did steel a point at Chelsea a couple of days later with a late Sheron goal. Jan Laamanen Sweden

Apart from the spectacular view of the pitch and players,my biggest memory of my first game was in the pre match warm up. Ruud Gullit (then at Chelsea) kicked the ball into the crowd, the result it smacking me in the face! I was around 10 at the time.To make matters worse,City lost 2-1. Gaudino had put us 1-0 up after three minutes! I still loved it and i’ve been going ever since! I also remember the new Kippax stand only being half built at the time too.
