I have many matches to choose from but one of my favourites was when the supporters club that I helped run,Forth Valley (Scotland),made our first visit to Maine Road on 16th Dec 1998. City were playing Fulham and we were in the Silver Suite at the top of the Kippax. It finished 4-0 to City and much champagne and other beverages were drunk, but as I was also the coach driver I had to settle for orange squash. A fantastic day was had by all though.

During the end of the game my dad thought it was all over but my mum said ‘just wait until the final whistle’ my dad ignored her and we left, we just came out of the ground and there was a huge cheer around the ground we didnt know what was going on so we tried getting back in but the stewards wouldnt let us so we found the nearest tv which was lucklily just outside the stadium and my dad and I cheered like mad. We watched the rest of the match on the tv, when we won the playoffs my mum said to my dad “told you so”

My first visit to a City game was when my loving husband bought me tickets for the Play off against Gillingham on the 30th May, 1999. Why did he buy me tickets ? Because it was our anniversary and he needed to be there and and with me !. Amused, I was not , I did not do football in any shape or form. Reluctantly I went to London under the bribary of shoe shopping if I did the football. WE arrived at the old Wembley stadium and the crowd were alive, I had never experienced an atmosphere like it. Still football did not excite me.

As the game progressed and the first half remained goaless, I soon found myself joining the avid fans sat on the end of my seat and biting my nails(~ manicured of course~).

In the 81st minute when Gillingham took the lead, I felt the dissapointment that could lay ahead and as the game progressed the dismay deepened I felt the emotion and found myself crying as we faced relegation. But I soon understood the statement not over till the fat lady sings as I saw City turn the game around in a nail biting finale.

This experience for me was the best anniversary present I could have wished for and has secured a now , life long passion for football, seeing my Saturday afternoons take a turn off the high street and into the Stadium to watch the best football team in the world x Who needs Jimmy choo when you ve got City xx

It was 1999 and my uncles were bringing me over to watch the game they are avid city fans season ticket holders and go to every home game every season . it was early that morning still dark and we went to get the ferry i remember it was still dark and also my first time on a ferry . I remember very vividly the hustle and bustle atmosphere around main road it was amazing then we went into a bar and there were no seats just tall tables and televisions i cant remember much of the game just we lost one nil to an alan shearer goal that i think was offside and i have been supporting ever since

I was never really into football when I was at school, but at Uni I got into it through some friends who are City fans. They had a spare ticket for the play-off final in May 99 and I couldn’t resist when they offered it to me – a trip to Wembley for my first game! I wore my new City shirt with pride and outside the ground I bought one of those big polystyrene hands to cheer on Andy Morrison (he was my fav player), Weaver, Dickov and the boys! After that game (what a comeback!) I was hooked and started to go to games more regularly. Soon Tiatto became my favourite player and I got his name on my shirt when I went travelling around Australia! I don’t go as much these days as I live in London but I always make it back for the big games (when the missus lets me!) – especially when we play United!

I can’t remember a great deal about my first City game as I was only 3 years of age at the time, so i will have to rely on my dad’s version of events to a certain degree. The match was in the First division and was played against Swindon Town in December 1999. What I do remember is being overawed by Maine Road. The ground appeared huge and I was so small. My dad told me that I was shouting ‘City’ constantly and was even cheering every goal that went in past City keeper Nicky Weaver during the warm up as I thought the game was on and City were actually scoring! the result was a good one with City winning 3 nil and Robert Taylor scored his first goal, rather fortunately, with a weak shot that squirmed under the Swindon keepers body. My love afair with City had started and I have been to see them many times since that day back in December 1999.
