Thrashing Notts County

My first game was when i was 8 years old. It was the second leg of the 1st round of the league cup. City had been drawn against Notts County and had already given themselves a 2-0 lead over them in the 1st leg.

I traveled down to Maine road with my father, very excited, it was like xmas to me. Wearing my shirt and scarf proud, we headed through the turnstiles and up into the Kippax Stand. I stood and waited in anticipation for the players to come out. A few minutes later out the tunnel they came. The next 90 minutes were a bit of a blur, from all the jumping and cheering i was doing. City came out and dominated the game, winning 7-1. Notts County’s goal went unnoticed by the City fans, and i believe even the team, a poor goal chipped straight over Nicky Weaver, was no match for the mighty Blues. City were through to the second round of the league cup, with a 9-1 aggregate thrashing upon Notts County.

I remember leaving the stadium, i didn’t want to, i had to get home for school the next day. “Don’t expect that every week son” my father said to me as we got back into the car to make the trip home.

That day i became a true blue, and returned many times to Maine Road, and now Eastlands, and will make the trip to my holy Manchester, as often as i possibly can.

My first blue memory City vs Stockport

My first city memory is of the City vs Stockport game in 1998, i was 9 years old and the atmosphere at maine road was amazing. It all seemed quite daunting at first but when Shaun Goater scored the first i was up on my chair screaming from then on i was a blue through and through CTID!

my first ever city game was city v millwall in the 98/99 season. what a baptism of fire it was. i was seven and my dad had got 2 free tickets which were situated next to the away fans. he sold them and bought two other tickets away from them. during the game a fight broke out between the millwall fans and the city fans. good job my dad used his instinct and moved us to the other end of the mighty old maine road. i think the game finshed 3-1 to the blue’s

was against blackpool at maine rd i was only 5 & went with my dad,i can remember sitting down in the north stand & seeing all the fans & hearing the singing.we won 3-0 & my dad picking me up & holding me up in the air when we scored,i have been going ever since & i will not stop going no matter what,once a blue always a blue.

My life started at the age of five, this was the time I attended my first ever match… and what a day. As soon I entered Maine Road with my dad on that cold windy day I was hooked. By now the result and apposition may no longer be a memory of mine, but that day I sat opposite the Kippax and I felt the buzz as they released their mighty roar and that will never be forgotten that noise that feeling will be with me all my life.

Three years ago my father died, this meant that I was unable to attend matches anymore, I was left fatherless and in some sense homeless. But now that I’m older I get the train into Manchester and attend every game without fault. When I sit there watching my beloved team I know my dad would be proud.

So was that first game the day I became a city fan? No, because as my dad once told me “you don’t choose to be city fan you’re born a city fan”. And I for one was born a blue.

I was only 4 but i could feel the atmosphere until the second half where i fell asleep but i was only 4

I don’t remember much about the match itself because I was 4 (almost 5) years old. All I remember was we were in division 2, Danny Tiatto was sent off about 15 minutes into the match and we lost 1-0. Why I chose City after watching that I’m not quite sure, it must just be in my genes. But I don’t regret it one bit!

Wrexham – Maine Road

Allthough the game was a 0-0 draw, I just remember the atmosphere taking hold of me in the North Stand. We’d gone as a family and it was mine and my sister’s first game and the atmosphere was electric, espescially to me as I was only 6, and I was hooked on it – condemned to a life of ups and downs – not that i’m complaining, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Back In Division 2

My first city game was in one of City’s darkest times, with us playing in division 2 (98-99). The first game I was allowed to go to was Chesterfield at home, my mum thinking she would see me on the pitch on match of the day if I went at a younger age,( I was around 5/6). I went with my dad and 2 of his friends. We sat in the “Gene Kelly (singing in the rain)” open end stand at the corner of the Kippax, which I thought looked odd at the time. I don’t remember much about the game but the score was 1-1 and I enjoyed myself. From then on I wanted to go to every game possible, we even went to away games, including the victorious visit to Wembley. I’ve had a season ticket ever since!

98 Lincoln City

My First city game was in 1998 against lincoln city. Paul dickov scored a hat trick and kevin horlock scored to make it a 4-0 win. i am now 15 and as soon as i stepped into the kippax i knew i was at home.
i now have a season ticket in the family stand at the coms and never looked back on the day i realised what i was. A true blue !
