It was September 1997. I was only 7 years old. Unfortunately we lost this game 2-1 and it was Lee Bradbury who scored. I can’t remember much but I only remember 2 things clearly. 1) I couldn’t see a damn thing because I was so small and 2) there was a minutes silence for the death of Princess Diana.
I remember by Dad sitting me on his knee just before the match and telling me about Lee Bradbury (who, at costing £3 million was our most expensive signing at the time!!!!) and he was telling me like h was something special and he was glad he scored on my first match. To bad really that he didnt settle.
Even though that was a bad period for city, the next few seasons were heaven, especially for other fans who were my age, when Nicky Weaver and Shaun Goater will be our heroes and will be for the rest of time.

Despite only being six at the time I can remember the day vividly with my Dad taking me to the match with hopes that I would follow City having lost my older brother to the red half. My Dad bought me a City scarf (which I’ve worn to every game since) and I can just remember hearing the noise from the City faithful and wanting to be part of it. Even though the game finished 1-0 to Ipswich the seed had been planted and I’ve been City mad ever since!

First visit to Maine Road, against my hometown club, Bradford City.
Tony Vaughan scored a 95th minute header to win 1-0.
Maine Road went crazy and i did my best to stay quiet… in the away end. CTID

I was 10 years old on my first trip to Maine Road. I loved playing football but never really enjoyed watching it (probably becuase id only ever been to Bury matches and a few city v united reserve games). On this day though, my life was changed forever! I still remember getting in the car with my big brother and being driven around picking his friends up on the way. Then as we came through Moss Side my brother pointed out the Kippax emerging over the houses. I felt excited but very nervous. My dad dropped us off on Claremont Road and we started walking towards the stadium. As we turned the corner and the ground came into sight i had a feeling wash over me that ive never had since. I instantly felt like i was part of the place. Every detail of the day made it more special. Going through the turnstyle, buying a programme, sampling the famous balti pie. Everythying was so new and amazing. Then as we walked out onto the terrace and the sight of the pitch becomes visable. I can still remember the strange welcoming of Maine Road. It was like TCP mixed with turf and cigarette smoke. Sounds unpleasent but somehow it was the most beautiful smell in the world. Leading up to the match there was alot of tension building up about whether Kinkladze would be leaving, which made the atmosphere electric come kick off. However,I was instantly introduced to the ‘city way’ when we went 2-1 down in the first half with Paul Dickov scoring the first city goal i ever saw. The one thing i do remeber though is how the atmosphere never went. All around me where people two or three times my age singing, screaming and shouting, and joining in made me feel like one of the lads. City ended up turning the game around and winning 3-2, Rosler and i think Heaney scoring the goals. I was instantly hooked! In the car on the way home i couldnt talk about anything else. I inhereted my first city scarf and shirt from my brother that day and became a blue for life. If only id have known how difficult the next two seasons would be!

it was my first game i went with my dad! the guy we were sat next to seemed to know it all about city that year, however he did not predict that we would be beaten 3-1. it was a great feeling when city scored seeing the 28000 fans at main road screaming, i lived to city better games at main road, such as the 3-1 defeat of united!
