I was born in Australia and came to England in 1989 as a 7 yr old, so wasn’t into football, however I started boarding school in 1993 and one of the bedrooms had a Man City sticker on it, so wanting to know more I supported them. I was offered the chance to go to the “swales out, Lee in” game but was too young, but then we got tickets for Man City v Arsenal in November 1995 and I didnt need to think twice when asked if i wanted to go and when I got there, Miane Road was massive and although we lost 1-0 I was hooked for life and have had a season ticket since 2003. City til I die!

My path to City took me (I am a little ashamed to say) through Old Trafford. I had moved to Manchester a couple of years earlier, with my initial football affiliation being to Aberdeen. The links to Manchester football were, I’m afraid, more to the Red half of the city, and the people I was living with were leaning that way. I went a couple of times, but never really got the atmosphere – agressive “we’re better than you” attitudes when playing Bury in the League cup etc. A new member of teh shared house was a Blue, and one day sugegsted coming to Maine Road – a match against Bolton, in October, and City had yet to win a match. I went, and was bitten. Famous self-depreciating humour: none of the aggressive attitudes, and Kinkladze lightening up the game. He was quickly becoming the dominant force in the team, directing players all round the pitch, and City won. I never looked back, despite relegation that season and the next, and when crying my eyes out at Wembley in 1999, I realised something had changed for life.

November 25th 1995 is a day that will live with me forever; City v Villa was my first City game, and what a game!! I was in the Platt Lane (Umbro)Stand and the atmosphere bristled from before kickoff as Bert Trautmann was honoured before the City faithful. Keith Curle led the Blues on to the field to the strains of ‘Roll with it’ by Oasis and City played well against a decent Villa outfit. Just as it seemed that the game would finish deadlocked at 0-0 City launched a final determined attack. Niall Quinn (minus disco pants!) showed a deft touch on the edge of the box, collecting the ball with his back to the Villa goal before skillfully laying it off to the Georgian magician who duly dispatched the ball into the far corner of the Villa goal. Throughout the hallowed ground unadulterated bedlam greeted Kinky’s first goal for City and a raucous rendition of Blue Moon brought the game to a victorious conclusion. And after all….you’re my Alan Ball! Still gives me goose bumps when I think of it.

My brother took me to my first game against Ipswich, It was a cold wednesday night at Maine road. We were running late and as we came up the stairs all the crowd jumped in joy for the first goal, I thort we had missed it but it was chalked off. The seats we had werent the best I couldnt see the goal at the far end of the pitch. Thankfully for me both goals were in the goal I could see and city won 2-0. Looking forward to taking my 2 little boys to there first game.

My first game was a winter’s 2-2 draw at home to Villa and I was 7! It was absolutely freezing and I must have been a nightmare for my Dad. I take my little sister now and she can be a handful from time to time. I sat in the Maine Stand just as the corner bends round to the North Stand, with mt Dad and my Grandad sat about 10 rows back. I don’t remember the goals, but we went 2-0 up by the break, a brace from legend Uwe Rosler. In typical City style we drew 2-2, and Dwight Yorke got both of theirs. It was writen in the stars that this would be the City way! 2 points very quickly turning to 1!

Since then I have been hooked, my dad bought me a scarf and i was waving it like crazy and a gentleman behind me told me that I was waving my flag wrong, to which I replied “No I am not” He then asked me who I was supporting and I told him City and he said that was the wrong team I then told him chelsea were rubbish. It turned out it was the chelsea vice chairman and he died a few weeks later. How guilty did I feel…

My first ever game was back in 1995 against Notts County in an FA Cup 3rd round replay.
I remember the week before the game my Dad showing me the tickets, i was so excited even just seeing them, I couldn’t believe i was finally going to Maine Road. It was a cold January evening and I went along to the match with my dad and my brother. I’ll never forget the moment i first walked up the steps and saw the hallowed turf of Maine Road, the shear size of it was amazing. That moment is one i’ll never forget and one i’ll treasure till the day i die! The game wasn’t bad either, we won 5-2, with 4 goals from Uwe Rösler (who became an instant hero of mine) and Gaudino got the other. Oh, and i can’t forget singing the legendary chant of “Uwe, Uwe Rösler” and Blue Moon for the first time either. After the game we got a chippy on the way back to the car, and this became a tradition for me, my brother and my dad for many years after. Me and my brother still go to most games. Thanks Dad for making me a Blue!
