1988 – My 1st game was against Bournemouth.We needed 3 points to gain promotion that day.3-0 up at half time we were cruising and everyone was in party mood.in typical city fashion we drew 3-3, unbelieveable.I should have known then what a rollercoaster ride it is to support my beloved City.

Will never forget Wed Feb 3 1988, I was 10 and my Grandad and dad took me and my brother to see us in the FA cup, the atmosphere had me hooked from the off. Sitting opposite the Kippax I couldn’t believe people stood for the whole 90 mins! That’s the day Paul Lake became my first City hero:)

I remember being six years old, my sister was going on a school outing to watch City at Maine Road. I went with her and my dad dropping her off at School, I hate to admit this but at that time I was a United fan, not through choice (through a forceful grandad) the mini bus about to leave a place on the trip becomes available, my dad a massive blue had a great idea I would go and see a real game of football. So I went, dreading it some what! It was a cold October im sat in a starnge place with people singing and shouting, wow it was loud! The game hadnt even kicked off! My sister could see i was slighlty intimidated. Next minute i Know I am at the front of the platt lane stand getting Andy Dibbles autograph! The match starts and the cold sets and city just keep scoring I didnt know what to do! By the time the second half arrives I am well into the game and feeling happy, This team can play and the fans are amazing im thinking dad why arent i a city fan! On the fourth and last goal i actually had goose pimples on my arms. I had never been to a game of football before and had not known what to expect. This must have been a sign I wasnt even booked on this trip but here i am and have thoroughly enjoyed it! From then on my head and heart were City. I asked my dad to swap teams. He said dont do it son you will be in for a life time of misery. I am 28 and have blue blood without doubt, the best thing i did was go to that game. I have been going ever since home and away. Thank you to the boy in 1988 on a cold dreary October in beautiful Manchester for not turning up for your school trip, I owe you!

My first game was with my dad and my brother and we were sat in the north stand and Maine Road. I remember the grey seats really well and because it was Andy Dibbles first game as well. I remember that Mel Machin had bought five new players and they were on the front of the match magazine. I don t remember much about the match only that I think we lost but I was still hooked even at 7 year old. Haven t stopped since!

I was invited to my first city match by a friend of my Dad’s. The match in question was a Saturday in September ‘88 I think, v Walsall, the match after Oldham had thumped us 4-1 at the start of what proved to be an unforgettable promotion season.

I recall vividly pulling up along one of the terraced streets behind a huge shed known simply as the ‘Kippax’. Despite the relative gloom surrounding football and City at the time, I could sense the tangible excitement drifting on a breeze of fried onions and barely edible burgers from the many independent food vans.

I recall my Dad’s mate paying about £3 for me to enter the perimeter wall and advising me on how to carefully manouver through the heavy turnstiles. Finally I was in. At last!

As I was led through the huge tunnel I can clearly remember the awesome sight of the barrelled roof over the Maine Stand, before gazing down onto the most magnificent green I had ever seen. With each descending step towards the perimieter fence, the green became brighter, the heroes warming up became larger, more recognisible, from Lake to McNabb and Moulden.

I stood holding onto the cold metal railings for the whole match, inbetween celebrating a couple of city goals in a 2-2 draw (I think).
As the whistle blew for fulltime I knew Saturdays (Sundays, Wednesdays and subsequently Monday nights) would never be the same again. I knew I had found a new home. Maine Road RIP

my earliest memorymiled and give me th of being at Maine Road is me being sat on the wall at the front of the Kippax. i remember the players warming up and me shouting ‘hey Curly wurly!’ to Keith Kurl. when he turned around smiled and gave me thumbs up it made my day! I cant not remember if we won or lost that day i just know i was hooked and have been going to the matches ever since with my dad.
My dad says my first game was a testimonial against United. He said tthat when he went to pay me in the guy on the turnstile said ‘dont worry you can lift her over’ and the other guy said ‘they are getting younger!’

So its thanks to my dad that i support city. the good times may not come that often but when they come they are well worth the wait!!

My first game was in 1988. My Mum and Dad bought tickets for me and my triplet brothers to City v Wimbledon. We were sat almost behind a pillar in the Main Stand. It was an awful match that ended 1-1 – which was a good result as we never seem to get anything off the crazy gang. Mark Ward scored a pen. Where is he now?!

My first game watching city was against oldham athletic at maine road, it was the second game of the 88/89 season. We lost 4-1 and Roger palmer scored a hat trick for oldham. I remember my dads mate parked somewhere near the hospital and as we left the car some young kids came along asking if they could mind the car. happy days

This was my first date with my husband Dave we went to the match and stood in the gene kelly stand at maine rd
in the fa cup city won
2-1 and still going to the matches now together we are season tickets in the north stand with are son Dean

A reserve game! My late grandfather, who had a season ticket, took me. I remember sitting in the main stand and watching as we beat them 2-1 and Darren Beckford scored. Unforgettable day.
