I remember very clearly my first time at City. From me and my dad getting a lift off my uncle. To paying the little kids a bit of money to ‘mind the car’. Just the buzz of the place was almost overwhelming. I had my blue and white scarf on and instantly felt at home. I walked through the tunnel under the Kippax and will never forget my first glimpse of the hallowed Maine Rd turf. I admit I was pretty scared as I was surrounded by loads of adults but I felt part of a community. There will never be a better feeling than standing on the Kippax cheering on my heroes. The game itself was pretty good as well..We beat QPR 2-0

I would have been about ten years old and went to Maine Road with my older brother Steve, and my dad. I was on my dad’s shoulders because the crowds were massive. I just remember going up the steps and seeing the pitch for the first time. My expectations were met with fantastic joy. That first sighting will never leave me. Still going to the new ground as a ever optimistic True Blue

I came late to football. I only started getting interested in the game when I was 10. Man City however is in my family’s blood, my great-grandfather having watched them in their Hyde Road days and it has been handed down ever since.
My first game was against Shrewsbury Town in the 84-85 promotion year with David Phillips the undoubted star. City won 4-0 and there could never be any going back after that. My next game was the end-of-season 5-1 promotion decider against Charlton. Who else can lay claim to a better goal difference from their first two matches at Maine Road?

My dad took me, 5 then and my older brother, 6 to our fist game.
Told we were going a week before the game and a bit too young to understand the significance of the game, the excitement was there nontheless. I remember being worried that I might go deaf if the cheering was too loud!
Maine Road was heaving and walking through the narrow alleys through towards Platt Lane was pretty daunting amid thousands of people.
The place was full; people standing in the aisles. I remember being lifted up when we scored. What a day and game to start it all.
A day I will never forget; City ’till I die!

Before the half time Sky Dancers and the Premier League had ever been thought of, was an amazing day worth every penny of the £2.80 entry fee to the Kippax.
My first and probably most memorable game ever at the age of 13!
(I still have the shirt)
Man City 5 Charlton 1
The ultimate in desire passion and drive. Paul Power, the pitch invasion, and of course the goals by Philips (Billy Macs super signing for only £65,000) !!!!
“Them were the days”
Ahhhhh, memories

The game that confirmed City’s promotion. I was 8 years old when my uncle took me. Stood at the front of the Kippax. I had never heard noise like it. Goals flying in. I can still remember Dave Phillips hitting a screamer. It was a total carnival. I was hooked during the game. I learnt a few songs so near the end i was joining in. I really loved it and have ever since

First visit to Maine Road in December 1985, (visiting from South Africa), and City weren’t looking so good near the foot of the table, and we had to play the mighty Liverpool! Caught an early morning bus from Cheltenham along with my cousin Chris, and ate a great steaming hot dog outside the gorund in the freezing weather, taking in all the excitement and atmosphere for the first time – standing in the Kippax stand, witnessed great close game, with Nixon a star in goal, and we knicked a 1-0 win, (Wilson scored I think?), to start a run that would confirm our safety that season!!!! Followed them to Villa Park, & Walsall away in the FA Cup, as well on that visit in 1985, and witnessed 3 wins out of 3 for a 100% win/attendance record!!!! (Maybe you need to get me to more of our games?!!!) – Neil

Bright and sunny but bitterly cold, paid some local kids a couple of quid to ‘watch’ the car in Moss Side and then to Maine Road itself. Saw Stuart Hall outside the ground in full-length fur coat and fur boots, and he was bright orange despite it being the depths of winter. Liverpool dominated but Clive Wilson nicked it with a toe-poke, a nice extra Xmas present!
