Being born a City fan, i was desperate to go to Maine Road but had no one to take me, until finally age 10 i got to go to Maine Road. November 12th 1985, yes ok it was actually only a reserve match but to me it was awe inspiring! I can still remember exactly how exciting it felt, entering the Main stand, with the swooping staircase in front of me, and walking up the steps to see the pitch emrge before my eyes.. heaven. The little sign on the Kippax roof “welcome to Maine Road”. It was bitterly cold, but 10 year old me enjoyed every second, and was spellbound by the action. We even managed to win – we beat Aston Villa 2-0. So, just the reserves it may have been, but for me it was the start of my lifetime of worship at Maine Road, i even got my mum hooked!

My Dad took me to Maine Road for my first game in 1985 against Southampton when I was seven years old. We left the ground 5 mins before the end as we always did to beat the traffic! I hated that! We won the game 1-0 and we missed the goal scored by David Philips, apparently? In school the next day I told everybody that we had scored against Peter Shilton as I thought he was a great keeper. I never told them I missed the goal though? That was the first time I ever felt that unbelievable rush of pride and excitement when MY TEAM ran onto the pitch. I was completely hooked from then on, thank you Dad.

We were playing Charlton Athletic and Billy Mcneill was in charge and we had too win to gain promotion to the old 1st Division.I remember it being a really hot sunny day and before the game kicked off all of the sprinklers were on the pitch.I can recall David Phillips banging in the 5th goal and remember getting crushed in the kippax with eveyone celebrating.

The first game i can remember was vs luton town at home in about 1985 with my dad.It was brill but the thing we got wrong was we had just returned from a spell living in scotland and my dad decided to take me to the game in the platt lane end.City scored so we jumped up only to realise we were the only ones cheering,we were in the away end and the police had to escort us to the home end, well done dad but from that day forward i was a blue.Great days and how we have earned this!!!

My first game was Charlton at home May 11th 1985. Went with my dad and my brother. We had tickets for the North Stand half way up behind the goal. What a great day my first match and we win 5-1 and get promtion. I had to wait for 2 years then for my next match, but it was in the kippax and we play Oldham and it was even better. What a get atmosphere I loved it. My uncle took me to all the home games then in the Kippax, he was a Man United fan. But not anymore

My 1st game was the 1st home game of 85/86 season against Leicester but my earliest memory was when we played Tottenham at Maine Road in 85. we all left the Jolly in Middleton piled into Gramps van and set off to Maine Road the reason the game sticks out i remember City having to leave the pitch to change into the red and black stripe away kit which baffled me as i was only 8, but City went on to win 2-1

Although id been to a few games before, the first one that plants in my memory is the 5-1 win v Charlton on 11th May 1985. I was 8 years old and at that age its the atmosphere you remember and not the football. I remember the Kippax had turned in to a sea of blue, a combination of scarfs and shirts eagerly donned on a glorious day. I remember struggling to pour the bovril in to the cup cos the crowd were on their feet all the time. I remember my dads big smile, accompanied with his 80’s moustache. I remember that hearty family feeling that only City fans get. Oh and yes, I remember that beauty from David Philips!!!!Get in!!!!!

I like to think of myself as a huge City fan. My dad and I have followed City for years everywhere, from Bournemouth to Belgium. But when I think of my first game I am sad to say I cannot remember it.
When I think of the early days of supporting City I just have flash backs to certain memories and feelings. I started watching City in the early to mid eighties. City were in the old second division.
One of the earliest memories I have is beating Charlton 5-1 to gain promotion back to division one. I remember being sat in the Platt Lane Stand with the long wooden benches.
If I close my eyes now I can go back there.
I can see the front of the Platt lane over flowing with people, I had been to see City before but never had I seen the ground so full or noisy. As I look to my right I can see the Kippax running the length of the massive green Maine Road pitch the sun beating down creating large shadows across the grass.
I feel the butterflies in my stomach I had that day still now. I remember Paul Simpson celebrating one of the City goals in the net in front of Platt Lane. A true blue Simo.
At the end of the game the crowd streamed on to the pitch, my dad and I included. We nicked a bit of the pitch that is still in our back garden today. Sorry Stan! (Gibson)
Little did I know that day what would lie ahead in supporting City, the affect the club would have on my life. Inflatable banana’s, fancy dress, invisible men, 10- 1 wins 8-1 defeats, relegation, promotion, Swales out – Franny in, 14 managers, Kinkladze, grasping defeat from the jaws of victory, division 3, That Dickov goal at Wembley, The fans on the hill at Blackburn, feed the goat, the last derby win at Maine Road, Eastlands, Thai owners, Arab owners, Robinho…The ride continues.
