Boxing Day 1984 (just ‘celebrated’ my quarter century against Stoke!) Dad took me in the wooden Platt Lane benches. Was in absolute awe of the stadium, the crowd, and was deafened almost when Jim Melrose scored for City.

Nearly half time, Dad gives me some money for a drink, and I walk, backwards, up the tunnel, so not to miss any of the action, not noticing the enormous shadow about to cover me! Cue nine year old lad walking into the neck of huge horse!!

Needless to say, the idea of a drink quickly left me, and I sprinted back to my seat!

What a day!

My first game from what i can remember was watford in the 80’s.I can remember going in the kippax with my dad and seeing all these people could not figure out what all the fuss was about.can’t remember the score or much about the game just remember a young john barnes wearing gloves.

I’d won two tickets for the Main Stand in a school raffle and nearly lost out on going due to my older brother wanting to go. Rang City and got a free third ticket, dad took us both and we watched the sky blues beat wolves 4-0. It was all down to me wearing all 4 of my City badges on one side of my coat and none on the other side )

this game is one of the first i have strong memories of. they were a good team unbeaten and we needed a win. steve kinsey scored in about the 89th minute then ex blue bobby mcdonald scored for them only for it to be disallowed. the feeling of joy still makes me smile today. racing home for the pink final to relive it all is as clear as day. city til i die.

Being a City Fan

My first game was City at home to Chelsea on the 4th May 1984. I was 8 years old. My dad (an estranged Leicester fan) took me to watch City on the basis that I should grow up supporting a proper local football team like he did. It was cold, there was crowd trouble and City lost 2 – 0. I think it was Kerry Dixon and Pat Nevin who scored. I was utterly dejected. It was the perfect introduction to becoming a city fan. I’ve not looked back since.

I went with 2 school mates Jon Wrigley (now in Oz)and Gaz Aspinall. We sat on the wall in the middle of the Kippax and just savoured every minute of it. We won 2-1 with a crowd of about 23,000. We went on to get promoted that season with the 5-1 V Charlton. Little did I know the rollercoaster I had got on! Season ticket ever since!

We Stuffed Wolves 4-0

I went with a school friend to my first game at Maine Road, stood in the Kippax and saw the blues maul Wolves 4-0. Clive Wilson was fantastics with the ball stiucking to his foot (why did we sell him later).
What a game to start with, I was hooked and even though its always been a roller coaster ever since I’m city till I die.

My family were not football fans so there was no chance my dad was going to take me, instead i remember going to an evening match one winters night early 80’s with a friend and his dad, we got the 263 bus into moss side and walked down to maine road. It was the first time i had seen the stadium in real life, there was such a buzz and excitment around the place, and all lit up it looked fantastic. We were late getting into the match but the place was full, singing shouting, I had never seen so many people in one place in my life, cant remmebr the score but i was totally hooked there after.

I was a month short of my 5th birthday when my dad and granddad took me to Boundary Park to watch the good Friday fixture. I can still vividly remember standing and the terraces and people climbing a ladder behind me, but i don’t remember anything of the game.
I had to wait another two years until i was first taken to Maine Road, the last fixture of the 85/86 season against Luton Town. It finished 1-1, a drab end of season game, but i loved it. I was hooked and have been ever since. I used to sit on the same wall half way up the kippax with my brother, and loved joining in singing the songs and listening to the banter in the crowd. Great memories that will stay with me forever.
