The abiding memory of my first city game is that It was Alex Williams debut and i was sat in the Platt lane stand with my dad on those yellow benches. It was in the days when keepers wore green but because WBA’s kit was green and yellow both keeper’s had red shirt’s on i thought they were the best thing i’d ever seen and plus the fact we won made it a day i’ll never forget.

My first City match was the FA cup replay against Everton in 1981, it was a night match and I could here the roar of the kippax as I walked to the ground. The atmosphere inside Maine Road was electric and I knew straight away that I would be a blue forever. CTID!!!

My 1st City Game was the last home game of the 1980/1981 season at home v Crystal Palace the week before the F.A cup Final. The final score was 1-1 and Dave Bennett scored if I remember right?

This game was my first taste of the Maine Road atmosphere. City were on a high after just beating Ipswich in the FA Cup semi-final. I sat on the old wooden bench seats in the platt lane stand. City scored three times through Steve MacKenzie,Dave Bennett and Kevin Reeves. I was hooked and by a spooky coincidence i was born during the 1970 Cup winners Cup Final win where the winning goal was scored by Francis Lee whos birthday was that day also….Seems i was born to support the blues.

we played norwich that year on the way to the final. my brother took me with some of his friends to watch city. i think it was about a £1 or £1.10 to get in and the programme was either 25 or 30p. the score was 6-1 to city and i have watched them ever since.

A few weeks after my 9th Birthday, my brother took me to my first match at Maine Road.
It was versus Southampton September 1981 and was Trevor Francis’ Home debut for us. The game finished 1-1.
I remember being in awe of the amount of people wearing God’s Own colours in and around the ground – it was amazing.
My memories of the match are a bit sketchy, but I remember the crowd “swelling” whenever Francis got the ball, and also remember Keegan and Channon both turning out in Saints colours.
KK was in theatrical mood as I recall!

My first memory of watching City was sitting high up in the top of the Main Stand at Maine Road. It was City v Southampton and although I have been a true blue for as long as I can remember, it was watching Kevin Keegan flying down the right wing in the Red and White Stripes that caught my imagination. The number 7 was brilliant that day. My best memory would Wembley in 1999 or the 4-1 win over Utd when SWP capped off a wonderful afternoon.

Believe it or not, my first game wasn’t at Maine Road. I’d been taken to Old Trafford by my dad to see United play Birmingham and can still remember the distinct lack of atmosphere within the ground, i didn’t ask to go and see them again. The next season, my dad took me to Maine Road to watch City, i still had no particular allegiance to any one team, i was 8 years old.
It was 26th September 1981, City were playing Spurs. As i type these words, i can vividly recall how unbelievably excited i was as i walked up to the ground, the buzz of the crowd, the push and shove, rickety old turnstiles, the old boys selling programmes, pies and hot bovril and me and my dad. As we sat down in the main stand i turned to my dad and asked him if we could come again, his response still amuses me now…”the game’s not started yet son, wait til you’ve seen the whole game”.
I knew i didn’t need to wait for anything, this was my club, my home, my love and still is. I’m 36 now, it’s been one hell of a ride but i’m still thankful to my dad for taking me to Maine Road that day. Incidentally, the score was 0 – 1 to Spurs.
