My first City game came about via my neighbours and friends at the time. They were all Big City fans and season ticket holders. One of them was too ill to attend the match on Sat 26th November 1977 and I was kindly asked if I would like to take their place that day.I jumped at the chance, and wasn’t disappointed City coming out on top winning the game 6-2.Thanks to my friends I have never looked back since, and still attend games when ever possible.City till I die.

it was cold, dark and damp as me dad took me to my first game at Maine Road. It was Boxing Day 1977 and City were playing Newcastle United. We made our way from Salford clutching two tickets to the Kippax Stand. I was wearing the full kit circa 1976 league cup final with long sleeves and including shorts. The buzz and excitement of the hordes of blue masses was unforgettable. My stomach churned with anticipation and excitement. I was 8 yrs old and already blue for life.
The atmosphere was electric and turned even emotional when the great Colin Bell came on as sub. Najinsky gave me memories for life as did the ground, fans and experience. We strolled to a 4-0 win, was it always going to be this easy?? maybe not ! But I’m still here and always will be. Thankyou the great Colin Bell and thankyou city.

My first game was at Maine Road in January 1977. It was just before my 8th birthday and I’d been a City fan since the ‘76 League Cup final. My mate from down the road had won tickets to the final and i was really jealous and became a die hard from then on. It was a great match as City won 5-1 (I think – it couls have been 5 nil but we scored 5 for sure!). Brian Kidd scored 4 times and Mike Doyle got the other. I can’t remember much more about the actual match but i recall my dad letting me wear my full City kit to the game. Considering it was the middle of winter i must have been freezing, sitting in the upper North Stand in my shorts but I don’t remember being that cold. The only other thing I can bring to mind was my dad buying me a scarf from the Souvenir Shop that was (obviously) sky blue byt had a massive plastic City crest at one end. It sounds awful but I wish I still had it. It was the start of a long relationship which has had highlights at Wembly in 1999, promotion at Blackburn (when it looked like we’d blow it) in 2000 and a first win at Old Trafford last term. But given that we finished the 76/77 season in second place behind Liverpool, I often wonder how it all went so wrong for so long!

My dad took me to Maine Rd in October 77 v Liverpool. There were 52,000 there, something i wasnt used to having watched Oldham a couple of times with 5,000. Liverpool had just won the european cup for the 1st time and had new signing Kenny Dalglish in their team. Liverpool were winning 1-0 at half time but City scored 3 in the 2nd half, Kidd, Channon and Royle. The noise and atmosphere were amazing and i was hooked from that day. I wiil never ever forget.

As an 11 year old the best birthday present possible was tickets to go and see city for the first time. My dad (who is no longer with us) Took me to Maine road to see us take on Arsenal. I dont remember a great deal about the match itself but do remember we won 2-1 and treasure the memorys of just being there along with 43000 others. I still have the programme from that day and every time i see it reminds me how gratefull i am to my dad for making me a Blue.

My Dad used to take me for my birthday treat every September from being about 6. He used to sit me on the white wall at the front of the Kippax for the best view.
I am the eldest of 4 and we are all mad for the blues, we lost our fantastic Dad this year at the tender age of 57 and I miss discussing every aspect of our wonderful club with him.
Thanks Dad xxxx

I don’t remember who we were playing or if we won: the impressions are of climbing the stairs at the back of the Platt Lane stand, to emerge at the top with a vast, floodlit green heaven in front of me! I was ten years old, new booble hat and navy blue parka, and as I pushed my way along the row of seemingly huge blokes to my new season ticket seat, the voices came from behind “come on blues” in deep Mancunian. I still shout that now, with my son Alexander sat alongside me. Always believe, never doubt, our day will come!

My first game was boxing day 1977 as a 7 year old boy. My Mum took me along to Maine road and we sat in the north Stand on what I recall being a cold winters evening. My Mum and Brother had spent my formative years telling me about this great player called Colin Bell. He had been injured for 2 years and this was to be his comeback game. To me, even though I had never seen him play, Colin Bell was some kind of god. He didnt play the 1st half but I remember him coming out for the 2nd half and the cheers that went up as he jogged on to the pitch were amazing. From that moment on, I was hooked. Funilly I remember that Bell had a shot a few minuets after coming on and he missed! I couldnt beleive it, I thought he never missed! We went on to win the game 4-0. I will never forget it.

A still remember my Dad taking me and my sister (even though i didnt want her to come, still don’t as you can see with my false smile). He took us on the kippax and sat us on the bars to lean on. What a great game and Kidd scored 4 and we won 5-0 I was hooked forever!!!
