A cold January afternoon and a home game against Hartlepool United. Sat in the Platt Lane Stand with my brother and dad. Wearing my dads red & black city scarf and feeling really excited at going to my first game. City won 6 – 0; a hat trick from Denis Tueart, who also got sent off! A great day and a great atmosphere

My first game was the League cup Final v Newcastle. My Late great uncle Joe asked if I wanted to go to Wembley. Of course I said Yes. There were about 8 of us altogether, we travelled down by train. The commadery and good feeling was out of this world there was nt anyone without a smile all wishing each other well. When we arrived at Wembley I wasastounded by the atmosphere and the shere size of stadium { outside view }. I walked out to the stand and I couldnot help being in awe of the green grass. The whole day was fantastic and the result was even better. Next day we went to Albert Square for the homecoming and again that was something else, an absolute sea of blue and white with singing and laughing, that was it I was hooked. Thanks Uncle Joe for changing my life.

My school mate Ian Gilman couldn’t attend every Junior Blues game due to a Saturday Job he was ‘forced’ to take.
I’d been ‘threatening’ to go to a game at city all through senior school but now I was actualy given an oportunity to go!
So I went in his place. (Well actually he sold ‘em to me to get some of his money back from his season ticket).
Des McCloghlin’s dad took Des, Me, his mum and sister in their car.
We arrived several hundred yards away from the ground. This young lad came running up to us: “Can I mind your car” “How much this time? “Only 50p.”
My god, my first visit to Main Road was met with such a nice little boy. “What a great place it is ’round here? Everyone must be a city fan?”
As we marched to the ground, disolving into the masses who streamed into the side streets and alleyways of the stadium’s approach, I was pulled to one side by Des’s dad. He made clear the consequences of refusing to pay ‘protection.’
I think the first game was Man City versus Stoke City with Peter Shilton (pre-back as first choice England Team as then Ray Clements was begrudgingly 1st choice & Joe Corrigan was creeping up with Jimmy Rimmer at that time).
I was sat with Junior Blues – weather was cold, the benches were colder.
Peter Shilton was fantastic! Shilts was about 27 then but he’d been around a long time. The game ended up being 0-0 but we should’ve scored 2 or 3.
The game finished then we walked towards to exit. It dawned on me “Do I have to join in with any violence?”
Fans from both sides were channelled away from the ground by the police without a cross word to be herd.(I’m not suprised at 0-0).
I went on and off to Main Road all through that season. I saw Brian Kidd score 5 against Spurs – snatched he match ball at final whistle – ran off into the tunnel and then ‘the sunset’ Peter Barnes beat every player including the ref – against Bristol – Dennis Tueartdoing the same (not televised then).
We came second to Liverpool – a great experience!

I may be wrong with the year, but it was at Elland Rd against Leeds. We were hammered 5-1, I travelled from Gloucester with a friend and stayed with my relatives in Leeds, It was a terrible stay. The only memorable minute was when Joe Corrigan, pulled off a superb point blank save from a volley from 6yards.Even the Leeds fans couldn’t believe it.

My first memories were as a kid in the seventies, walking down Northenden Road with my elder brother John, a City scarf tied to my wrist and thumb out, flagging a lift. A fellow blue would always stop for us. One of my first games I can recall, was one where Dennnis Tueart ran from inside his own half toward the North Stand with the ball and scoring a great solo goal. I think City won 4-2 and it may have been against Derby County?? I think in the same game Mike Doyle was sent off too. The smell of cigarette smoke out doors and hot pies brings back childhood memories of Maine Road. I can also recall waking up in the early hours of a Sunday morning when I was 9 years old with a City rosette stuck on my head, as my brother had just got back from Wembley after City beat Newcastle 2-1 in the league cup final. City fans are the most loyal supporters in the country who truly love the club now matter where they are in the world.

In the mid seventies when I attented Whitehaven Grammar School there were several ity and Leeds fans we agreed to run a joint trip to Leeds Away Boxing Day 76 As soon as we got off the bus our Leeds friends were hiding scarves and colours as there was City everywhers despite being 16 Stuart Lilly and myself had a few pints in the Peacock, saw our first punk rocker and got in the ground as soon as gates opened. We were lucky as City had thousands locked outside Our long journey was worth it as Kidds two early goals saw us win 2-0

I actually went to see City on the north american tour late sixties but was only a baby so don’t remember it at all.(I was born in upstate New York to my English City supporting mum, Dee, who happily brought me to Manchester to Grow up just after the tour) I did start going to games with my family at Maine Rd in 75/76 on kippax or platt lane but the one I can actually remember is the League Cup Final. God bless City and that over head kick

I had mithered my elder brother for ages to take me to Maine Road until finally he relented. So excited. Got the one & only bus to the ground from Timperley. The crowd, the noise so much to take in. Stood on the Kippax, couldn’t see much but didn’t care. Brother was worried what would happen to me when City scored. They did four times!…but I was fine.Had to run for the bus home but what a day – great memories. Now 32 years on arrive by car, you’re sat down – mostly, even a different stadium. Times change support for City never will.

My mum allowed me to go to my first game under supervision of the Newsagents in Hadfield near Glossop were i worked. The game was the first home game after the League Cup Victory over Newcastle. I stood at the front of the Kippax with My Dennis Tueart King of All Geordies banner.
I am sure the game was versus Sheffield Utd and we won 2-1 and Tueart scored another overhead kick. He was my hero from that day on.
The problem is i think i must be the jinx as we have not won a major trophy since i started going that day and became a Season ticket holder the season after and have been since. maybe i should stay away?.
