My dad allowed me and my sister to travel from Carlisle on the train to watch City V Liverpool on Easter Monday 1976. We had to ask a policeman how to get to the ground and we caught the 77 bus. Once at the ground we spent a fortune in the club shop! We sat in the main stand next to Platt Lane and watched as we got soundly beaten 3-0. However this did not diminish my love of City and many years on I am still a Season ticket holder travelling down from Carlisle for every game.

never missed a home game in 1976 – use to go with my dad & grandma
i remember sitting in the main stand watching newcastle next to a few ‘away fans’ who were quite vocal – me being me (14yrs old at the time)decided to try & out chant them – much to my dad’s distress – not sure who won on the pitch but i certainly won ‘pitch-side’ – happy days!:-)

My first City match! I was 11 and a half years old and I was being treated by mum and dad. And what a treat! It was a match that was Pure City;we had our skipper Doyle sent off at 2-0 up and then we went 3-0 up before being pegged backed back by Derby to 3-2. My hero Tueart then scored a fabulous goal running through from his own half onto a ball from Ged Keegan to put us 4-2 up. There was still time for Derby to score a third leaving me biting my nails until the final whistle and a 4-3 win. Not much has changed since – but I would not change my City for the world!

15th Sept 1976 I was aged 6 and this was the night I became a true blue. My late Dad had been going for years and was at wembley to see that great Dennis Tueart over head kick, easily the best goal scored at wembley, well after Paul Dickov.
I was bloodied at Maine road that night, the air was cool, the steam and smoke rose over that bright green pitch, and set the perfect scene, WOW!! look at those sky blue shirts I thought, my heart pounded, the hairs stood on my neck to the City theme (still does now!) I kicked every ball, and saw my hero wearing 11 (Tueart)skin the full back in black and white stripes over and over again,I loved every minute seeing CITY win 1 nil, I cried when they beat us away 2 nil! typical CITY ..thats when I knew CITY was in my blood, and there is nothing I could do about it.
I post this in memory of my late father Phil DEAR who passed away in 2001.
thanks DAD for that night!

My first game was the League Cup Semi Final in 1976. I was only 5 1/2 at the time, but Dad thought it was time for me to be blooded! I remember being in absolute awe of Peter Barnes. We smashed them 4-0 and I thought “this is definitely team for me, it must be like this all the time.” How wrong can you be!! Hopefully with the new owners in place we will have those exciting times back very soon. Whatever happens though, through thick or thin, we are all, and ALWAYS will be, City till we die.

This was the first game of any description that I ever attended. I was sat in block A of the Main Stand right next to the tunnel and as soon as I walked through the concourse that Easter afternoon I knew I would be doing this for many years to come.
I was brought up in the seventies and still love this period with all my heart. I can still remember when those lovely shinny kits appeared a couple of years later. We were watching the worst ever England team in history but how could a schoolboy not love watching England when we had that wonderful stylish Admiral kit!
Going back to the match my memories for some reason are of all the cigarette lighters going off in the other stands, the roar of the crowd and listening to grown ups moan and moan! There was an old man who was about one hundred and twenty five years old sat next to me and boy did he play hell when I swung my rattle round in the Main Stand.
Other lovely memories of the period then and into the early eighties were, why did we have a dog on the pitch every week, also I`m sure we even had the pleasure of a fox and a cat running around the hallowed turf!
For the record City lost 3-0 that day to three late goals from David Fairclough (2) and Steve Heighway.
Match Ticket £1.00
Programme 10p
