City v Burnley in the 73 charity shield was my first game at Maine Rd.I was 8 at the time and remember my dad sitting me on the wall at the front of the kippax. We lost 1-0 but i was hooked.I now take my dad to city, both loyal season ticket holders in the east stand.

A preseason friendly at Gigg Lane, home of Bury FC is probably my earliest recollection of a city game I attended. Two things stick in my mind. The first was when, as Bury were attacking, Tommy Booth got between the attacker and deadball line. He then tapped it out of play right in front of my dad, brother and me. He then cheekily claimed it was “our ball”. The referee the gave the goal kick – just shows that the job of refs was no easier then than it is now. But we found it funny. At the end of the game we were allowed to run on the pitch and congratulate our heros – sadly a tradition that is, understandably, no longer allowed. Happy Days.

It was the christmas of 1973. My Dad took me to watch CITY agaisnt Burnley. I could never remember the score untill i reserched it a few years ago. There began a love affair which resulted in not missing a home match until my Dad died in spring 1982. I’ve still got a season ticket and always will. UP THE BLUES…

My first game was when my eldest brother took me to watch the Blues beat Norwich City 3-0 at Maine Road on 19 August 1972.
That was my first experience of Bell,Summerbee,Lee and Marsh.A fantastic performance by the best footballers of the 1970’s,topped off with still one of my best ever Cty goals.A smart one two move around the Norwich wall for Franny Lee to make it 3-0.
As an 8 year old kid I was in awe of the stars playing for City then.I am from a typical divided family between Blue and Red,but I am so glad that one of my ‘Blue’ family got me hooked on a fantastic club.Roll on the next 36 years!

My name is Colin Gorman and I’ve been a city fan for 35 yrs. I have two girls, Ciara and Laura, aged 14 and 11 and both are big city fans. Not many young City fans in Castleknock in Dublin ( all Man U , Chelsea and Liverpool, the usual glory hunters !!!!) and both have endured their fair share of slagging over the years but they are proud blues and always have said that ‘ our day will come’. So hopefully this season.
We decided that enough was enough and we are going to see our first City game next Wed against PSG. Even my wife is coming.
Is there any chance we could get some autographs or get a picture taken with some of the team. It would be a dream come true, not only for the girls but me aswell.

At 10 years old I was already a Blue thanks to Esso coins distributed around this time (another story). On August 6th 1973, City came to Muirton Park, Perth, to play my home team Saintjohnstone in a pre season friendly with City winning 0-1 (Marsh). I wore the full red and black away strip I’d bought with birthday money for the princely sum of £3.50.
Man City – Healey; Book; Donachie; Doyle; Booth; Oates; Summerbee; Bell; Law; Lee; Marsh. Att 5000.
I have since attended most City games in Scotland, traveled many times to Maine Road and get down to CoMS as many times as possible.

i think this must have been a birthday treat for me from my dad as the game fell in September, my birthday is the 14th. we sat in the new North Stand, my only experience in there as we switched to the main stand from then on. the game ended 2-2 and as I thought City should win every game (and still do CTID) I left mightilly Deflated but soaked up the atmosphere that always brings a lump to my throat. best fans, best everything despite our ups and downs over the decades. my dad wasn’t too happy as he got a speeding ticket and it took us ages to get home as the hills were very, very foggy that night. Still can’t take away my first live City game and it remains up there as one of my favourite memories.

I remember my uncle taking my brother and I to see City play Birmingham City in August 1973 at Maine Road. It was my first ever City game and being only 8 I can’t remember too much about it. Fortunately, it was captured on the MoTD so I have seen the goals many times since. I do recall see Denis Law score twice and with one from Colin Bell as City won 3-1. It was Denis’s first game for City since he re-signed for us from the Reds that summer. Everyone was talking about our all-star forward line of Summerbee, Bell, Lee, Law and Rodney Marsh and that day it did seem that we would be unstoppable.
However, as the season unfolded it proved to be a false dawn and we struggled that season finsihing below mid-table and recording the fewest number of goals in a season for a long time before or since.
For one young boy that golden, sunny day in August 1973 will never be forgotten along with the noise, the colour, the spectacle and the smell and taste of hot dogs !! Had City lost who knows but I am still a regular 35 years later !

It was the 16th March 1973 that I attended my 1st City game v Sheffield United at home and even though I was only 6 the memory of walking out onto the north stand and the size of the ground still stays with me to this date. I was bought a City team poster and scarf and remember singing about Rodeny Marsh, my hero at the time. It took me another 30 years to get a season ticket but did attaend many games in between.

i honestly can’t remember the exact first game i went to, but i was at maine road week in week out first team or central league, i still remember the 5 -1 win against schalke04 as the one with the greatest atmosphere, then we moved abroad, no more city games, occasionally a game on tv. then we had to come back to the uk and finally we were (lindas a blue too)able to see our blues for the first time at their new stadium city 6 portsmouth 0 !!!
enough said , welcome home. cheers city.
