My cousin, a keen Derby County fan, regularly came to visit us in Wythenshawe when Derby met City at Maine Road. I persuaded him to take me along in 1970 when I was 10. I can’t remember much about the game, but I was hooked. Unfortunately I only went to City v Derby County games to start with as my United supporting family refused to take me.

My first ever City game a league cup final v West Brom march 1970. Oh How we would love that team to turn out for us now. I was 10 years old, went with mum & dad. We left Manchester at 7pm on the friday not arriving in London till 7.am the following morning, they didn’t have motorways then. Don’t remember much about the game as I didn’t see it, I was knee high to a grasshopper, but I remember snow on the pitch, if you can call it a pitch that is, they had the horse of the year show at Wembley 3 days before & the pitch resembled a plough field. Well I just remember the wonderful atmosphere at the old Wembley, getting my City rossette on Wembley way, and City winning 2-1 after going 1-0 down in the match, happy days!

Saturday, 19th December 1970 Burnley V City – age 6.
My Dad and Grandad – both life long City fans – treated me to a pre-Christmas outing to watch City play away at Turf Moor. What an introduction to the blues!
I remember being sat up in a stand behind the goal, and being surprised to see that there was no stand at all on one side of the ground, just a wall (maybe it was being redeveloped?).
I also remember Mike Summerbee putting a paper cup on top of the ball before taking a corner. It was such fun! Of course, what sticks in my mind the most was the score: we won 4-0!! Lee, Bell and Summerbee all scored.
I can still picture returning home after the game and being greeted by beaming smiles from my Mum and Grandma. A fantastic day! From that point on I wanted more!
The picture is of me & Keith Curle which appeared in the match programme City v Sheffield Utd 26th October 1991.

I was 9 yrs old at the time and was “allowed” to go and see my beloved City against my older brothers team Stoke City.
We live in shropshire and took a bus to the then victoria ground and stood in the boothen end.
We were well beaten 2-0 by Dobbing, Ritchie ETC ,and big Joe made an incredible save to keep us in touch.
In truth i dont remember too much other the wishing at was at the other end with the city fans and how brilliant it was seeing Frannie and his men live for
the first time

What a coincidence as we play them again, my first game was against Schalke 04 in the semi final of the ECWC one Wednesday night in April 1970. I think I can remember that the North stand was being rebuilt at the time and I was perched on the wall in the corner between the North stand and the Kippax. We lost the first leg 1-0, but won easily that night 5-1. Lets hope it’s am omen.

My first match would have been in the mid 1970s although I cant recall who the opposition were (yellow strip) nor result. It would have been in the Tony Book era, all sky blue diamond umbro kit and the side is likely to have included the likes of Joe Corrigan, Dennis Tueart and my first blues idol Peter Barnes. As I was only young at the time 5/6 I remember being placed on one of the white painted sloping walls of the Kippax which was a bit gloomy and intimidating.I lost my hat on the way to the game so my dad bought me a city bobble hat from the portakabin souvenir shop near the social club.

My first city game was March 1970 v West Ham United;on a quagmire of a pitch we were destroyed 5-1;Poor old Joe Corrigan-he took a goal kick and turned his back;heading towards the goal-when on the halfway line stood Ronnie Boyce who merrilly volleyed it first time past him;straight over his head-whizzing over him like an exocet! No one in the Mine Stand could belive it;least of all my father and i;What an introduction to the world of MCFC!!!

August 1970. For a young lad from North Wales going to Maine Road for the first time was a near-religious experience. The Scoreboard End had been demolished, but the North Stand had yet to be built. I will never forget my first sight of the hallowed green turf as I went up the steps from inside the Main Stand. It’s as close to God as I have ever seen. I can still feel it. First game of the season, we drew 0-0 with Burnley, but it didn’t put me off. Many is the time I have wished that I didn’t care about football so much. But I have never wished that I supported any other team but Manchester City. City til I die – it’s a part of me.
