i am not sure if it was 69 or 70 but there were two goals in the first five minutes burnley scored first then ian bowyer equalised.city played in red and black stripes and that is the reason for me being a city fan from that day to this.it was not so much the team but the football strip that started me out as a city fan and i do not regret a minute of it.p.s. favourite player other than robinho.rodney marsh

My first city game was against Huddersfield town in the old league cup at Maine road,my father took me i could’nt wait to see city in their sky blue shirts for the first time so can you imagine the disappointment when city came out wearing an all maroon kit.The disappointment was short lived as city went on to win 4-0,it felt great watching Bell,Lee & Summerbee from the scoreboard end.

Having been brought up by my Dad as a Red (long since forgiven) by the time I was 9 I had seen a few games at Old Trafford. Then on a May Monday night in 1969, I was taken to see my first ever City and night match. City V Newcastle. All I can remember was the first sight of the bright blue seats of the Platt Lane, the green grass of Maine Road and the peanut sellers (when did they disappear?). I know we won 1 – 0 and that a centre forward called Mundy made his full debut, only to fade into obscurity but I was hooked. It’s nearly 40 years later, a lot older and a little wiser, but I still see each City game through blue tinted glasses, believing that one day we will have a team to compare with the two teams of the late 60’s/ early 70’s and the mid 70’s.

Hiya, My first match v newcastle in the cup replay in 1969.Me and my pal daid taylor got the bus from chadderton to stevenson square then the ’special’ to maine road.We stood in the old scoreboard end with about 65000 on the ground that night. As we were in our early teens abd not very tall the adults lifted us above their heads until we got to the the wall and we ended up watching the match from the touchline. The ground ,the atmosphere, the fans and the team were so special that night. From that moment hooked for life!!

i was only eight and a wee boy just down from glasgow to a strange place called ancoats well the rags were every where and everyone was telling me this was the team to support,i was taken to a united game by a older boy to initiate me to the grate (and thats whats they have done ever since) manchester united, i was duly taken to the then stretford paddock to watch the beating of a local small team called city.he sat me on a crush barrier and we waited for the game to start, well just as the game kicked off some big brave full grown adult decided that this small jock was in his view and pushed me off my pedistal, i fell to my knees and was hurt i spent the rest of the game peering thru arms at the game as it unfolded in front of me well all of a sudden god appeared in the shape of player i later found out was called summerbee,he scored a goal the whole red part of the stadium went silent, i didnt i just jumped with joy and looked up at this excuse of a man and rememebered saying to myself if this one man can shut a crowd like this down thats the team for me, i carried a picture of buzzer round for years after that, love the guy.
that was the start of a love affair i have had thru 6 dogs 2 wivies 7 houses, waterfalls of tears (relegations)the CSA. my one shining light thru bad days, even the bad days were good looking back.manchester city my team. people always ask when they hear my glasgow accent is it celtic or rangers the look i get when i say manchester city, they think i am simple. and thats what i am plain and simply a city fan.

City – only supporting them can there have been some many great memories and so many heartbreaks. My 1st game I recall was the Charity shield game v WBA sitting on the wall (score baord end) while my dad (God bless him) stood with his mates. Great days and memories – including leaving early so you could catch the match bus home. Other great memories – sitting on the wooden seats in the Platt lane behind the goal in the 70’s and standing with mates on the Kippax – miss those days – Once a blue always a blue

I remember catching the coach from Rochdale early morning with my dad.Reached Wembley around lunchtime with snow everywhere.Enjoyed the pre match entertainment before seeing the blues beating WBA 2-1.Gretest ever player in Manchester was the “king” Colin Bell.

As it is 49yrs since my first match I unfortunately cannot remember it, but over the years there have been many happy memories the 5-1 Derby win, Spurs on ice, and the 10-1 against Huddersfield to name a few. But the game that is most memorable to me, is the pre-season friendly against Caernarvon in 1969. We travelled from Maine Road on supporters club coaches, and a young lad got on and as he passed my seat he said yaki da in a welsh accent and gave me a big smile, that lad became my husband 4 yrs later and we watched the blues together all through our married life, had 2 sons who are now blues, and now have 3 granchildren who are following in their fathers footsteps. Sadly my husband whose picture I have added on his way to the stadium with his eldest grandson Alex, passed away last November & did not see the club become the richest or make the record signing, but his heart and all of the families have been blue for over 80yrs and will remain so for many years to come, because at city you feel you are a part of the club, and we hope that does not change with all the money.
