Approx..during the War is that right..City beat Portsmouth..my Dad was at Wembley..always saw every Cup Final since the Wembley (White Horse) days..My brothers Jack & Eddie ..and Dad Edward between them built a Radio..with a cats whisker for an airiel and a accumolator/battery ..theFamily and neighbours listened to the game in Stafford Street, Chorlton-on- Medlock ..just near the BBC Studio’s on Oxford Road..Nori..exM/City F.C. former player..50s

Outside the minibus that nine of us travelled in to Vienna to see City win the European Cup Winner’s Cup,in 1970.

First City game

My first City game was in September 1938 when I was 9 years old.I think it was against Nottinham Forest.City were in the Second Division after being relegated the previous season.I remember catching the Football Special Tram outside Manchester Town Hall with my Father.We got off at the side of the Princess Rd.Bus Depot and after walking through the side streets came out in front of the City ground an awe inspiring sight.My Father gave me sixpence and I went through the Boy’s Entrance in the Platt Lane Stand, meeting my Father inside.We went through the tunnel and saw the ground and the crowd for the first time and knew that this was going to be a big part of my life from then on.We watched the men with their trays full of packets of Uncle Joe’s Mint Balls throwing packets into the crowd and people throwing their pennies back to the vendors.We then went up the stairs to the top,I thought we would never get to the top but we eventually did.It was the Boy’s Corner,I stood at the Barrier and my Father stood just below me.The view was fantastic,I can’t remember the result but I will never forget My First Game.

August 1934 was my first City match,my Dad took me as a 5th birthday surprise. We stood in the North stand and I shouted my head of for Eric Brook (the SWP of the time). If the kids couldn’t see the match we were carried overhead by the crowd to the concrete perimiter to get a better view. Half time we had a penny bag of Uncle Joes mint balls.
Ive been supporting City ever since, going all over to watch them and will not hear a bad word said against them.Tempus fugit has caught up with me and I don’t go to many games now but still have a Citycard, believe me my support is still(and always will be) as strong as ever.

City 4-1 Sheffield Wednesday

My dad carried me to Maine Road, and we crammed in to watch us tie up the league title with a big win over Sheffield Wednesday. After the game the manager and the Chairman came out onto the pitch to talk to the crowd on a primitive PA system, it was a far cry from all the interviews we see now!
