Geoff Hammond, Colin Bell, Dennis Tueart hat-trick, they beat us in the cup the week before,we were the away team ‘cos they were banned from playing at home – so City lost ‘at home’ 2-0 one week then won at home the following week 5-1 – all you need to know about being a Blue in just those two results; and yes i would still do it all again! The day was brilliant, i just loved it, we sat in the North Stand, just behind Helen (god bless) the noise, the colour, Big Joe getting his lucky sprig of heather from aforementioned Helen & the pure joy of being THERE still gives me goosebumps even now. But, oh how i wanted to get in that there Kippax! Got there two seasons later can’t remember the game but i have a feeling it was against Stoke, I Started at the top near the away fans to begin with (didn’t we all)even got ejected once – oops!for making gestures! i was only telling the Liverpool fans they were two up – Honest! Then of course you moved nearer to the North Stand as you got older(can’t be wiser!)Dennis Tueart – King of all Geordies! still go starry eyed when i meet him now and i am 44

Walking down to the ground for the final match of the season 1965-1966 having gained promotion, this was a celebration my dad was allowing me to go to the holy grail of soccer. I can still feel the excitement of going into the programme shop on Upper Lloyd Street to buy the blue star badges of our heroes that adorned our self- decorated camouflaged jackets we wore then. Then the match – a boring 0-0 draw, but so what, our heroes had got back to the top once more. As the final whistle went, onto the field we ran it was an awesome feeling and I’ve followed them ever since along with my family who are all season ticket holders.

My First game was Sheffield Weds at home on 9th November 1968. We lost 0-1. I was 11 and went own my own cycling to Maine Road on my bike from Chorlton, parking it in someone’s back yard close to the ground. I took my seat in the Platt Lane stand on long benches marked out with seat numbers watcheing in utter amasement the great team we had at that time. The following season I got my first season ticket and still have one today. Last month Matthew (my son – another Blue)and I had the great pleasure to meet one of my heroes playing in that very first game – Mike Summerbee.

11th April 1962. My late dad took me with his best mate, also sadly not with us any more. It was a wednesday night floodlit match and we played Birmingham City. I was 8 years old and so excited I couldn’t speak. We walked up through one of the old tunnels in the Kippax and thats when I saw it. I had never seen grass looking so green. The cigarette smoke was pouring up into the night sky. We lost 4 – 1 and I cried all the way home. I was hooked and have been ever since. The Saturday after we beat Villa and everything was alright again.

First game was the 5-2 against tottenham october 94! walshy bagged a couple and quickly became my hero, and i was stood in the north stand with my gary flitcroft shirt on! hooked from then on, though we had quite a few bad years with relegations, city stuck in my heart and watchin the blues in the lower leagues we always knew that we would be back. But who would have thought we would do it the way we did! this line typifies my life “CITY TIL I DIE”

I came late to football. I only started getting interested in the game when I was 10. Man City however is in my family’s blood, my great-grandfather having watched them in their Hyde Road days and it has been handed down ever since.
My first game was against Shrewsbury Town in the 84-85 promotion year with David Phillips the undoubted star. City won 4-0 and there could never be any going back after that. My next game was the end-of-season 5-1 promotion decider against Charlton. Who else can lay claim to a better goal difference from their first two matches at Maine Road?

I eagerly looked around at all the city fans milling around the stadium in their blue shirts and scarfs. Everybody was equal and supporting the same team. It felt like home. It was home. The chants and the cheers made the atmosphere wonderful and it felt amazing to be supporting and apart of it all. The incredible score of 6-0 polished my day, I’d had an absolutley fantastic day. MAN CITY FOR LIFE.

To see my one and only game at Maine Road, it was 1998 and City lost to Boro…thus condeming City to Division 2. Oddly enough my biggest memory of this game is an own goal scored by Jamie Pollack where an attempted header back to the keeper ended up in City’s net. Pollack’s head was down as he walked back to center but then the fans started singing and the players immediately lifted their heads and got right back into the game. Although City ended up losing the game, that very moment only reenforced what I already knew….nothing beats being a City fan. Now 10 years later I will be at Eastlands to see the Manchester derby as well as the UEFA Cup game against PSG, hopefully the results will change from what I witnessed in the past.
