Away to Blackburn Rovers who were then challenging our Trafford-based rivals for the title. One of those games most City fans wouldn’t be too disappointed to lose. City don’t do scripts though and after going behind twice on a rain-soaked April night, goals from Curle, Rösler and Walsh saw us win 3-2 in an electric atmosphere. What can I say but typical City.

My Grandpa had got a box at maine road through work and another for Sheffield Utd on boxing day the same year. it was the last sunday game to be played at maine road. it had been agreed that my brother would go to the bradford game and i would get to go to sheffield. however this later changed as my dad thought that the sheffield box wouldnot be as good as the city box so i was to go to the bradford game with my dad, uncle, grandpa and people fron his work. i remember him telling us a story of a guy he knew who had cut his fingernail so that it made things easier to flick (bizzare, i know) any way when the betting psheets came round my dad got me on his knee and went through the sheet with me asking me various questions about what i think would happen. ‘who will score first?’ he asked
‘Goater’
he put goater to score first on he sheet
‘What will he score be?’
‘3-1′
he marked 3-1 on the sheet.
i clearly remember Kevin Horlocks strike from the edge of the box after ali bernarbia played him in from a freekick. when the match had finished, the winnings came round and my uncle had won a lot of money and after the various people had recieved their winnings nothing came my way so i ’subtlely’ reminded my uncle of my bet
‘what about me? i bet i would be 3-1!!’
he ended up chucking £5 my way. i still dont know if that was the right amount. but that was my first city game. ever since we moved to the CoMS, i have always tried to get there

It was September 1957 and my granddad was an avid City fan, as was my dad. They asked me if I wanted to go to City for my birthday. The obvious answer was yes! As my birthday was 6th October the next home match was against Sheffield Wednesday on the 9th October. On the night before, I couldn’t sleep, I was up at the crack of dawn. I sat at the table with my City scarf and bobble hat on making my family laugh. I even had a blue and white rattle on the table.
At 1.30pm we set off and I was a bundle of excitement. We parked the car and it was the first time I had seen more than 1 or 2 coloured people at the same time. I was in a different world, one full of wonder, one of promise and one of amazement. We sat in the Main Stand and of all the places to sit I chose the front row on A Block so I could see the players. I remember some of the team that day; big Bill Leivers, Roy Little, Dave Ewing (who later turned out to be a good friend), Joe Hayes and Colin Barlow, but alas no Bert Trautmann who was injured. We won 2-0 courtesy of Colin Barlow and McAdams.
That was it- taken in completely, hoarse with cheering and right arm tired with using the rattle. The next season I had my first season ticket and never missed a match except for work commitments.
Now as a father and grandfather, my kids watch City as often as they can and maintain a constant following that makes me proud.

I was 14 years old and it was the first time my Mam let me go on my own to a City Match with my mates. It was on the 17th Oct 1964 , It was against Huddersfield a real red rose’s battle sadly we lost 3-2 but what a game , my mates and I walked to Maine rd there and back and we felt like “real grown ups” there was no trouble and I was hooked for life. Today I go with my own son to Eastland’s and I get the same “buz” with my new mates

My first game was March 1970, taken to Maine Road by my uncle, a Utd fan. The pitch looked like a mud flat, the sky was a typical Manchester day. Not a great game for City. Jimmy Greaves had just joined West Ham from Tottenham and he scored twice. Worse was to follow. Joe Corrigan collected the ball and dispatched a kick down field. Before he could get back between the posts Ronnie Boyce had volleyed the ball straight into the net.
The start of a life long affair. Come on City our time has come. I hope!!

My first City game was on 19th April 1954. We played Chelsea and the score was a 1-1 draw. City scorer was full back Ken Branagan. My late uncle took me to the game and we had seats in the old grandstand. I had never seen so much green grass. From that day on, Bert Trautmann was, and still is, my hero.

November 1953 8yrs of age a sunny saturday in November. We lived in a small terraced house in Ancoats, Manchester. My uncle Eric who lived 5 doors away said c`mon I will take you to maine road. In those days people went one week United next City. This particualar week City were playing WBA I dont remember all the players but Bert Trautman was in goal Roy Paul,Bill Spurdle,Roy Clarke,Johnny Hart,Don Revie & a 40,000 crowd. We were on the Kippax before it had a roof, the result City lost 2-3, Hart & Revie were the scorers, dont ask me why but from that day on it was City. My uncle Eric said you dont pick City they pick you & here I am 57yrs later still obsessed with all things City

I was only 5 the first time I went to a home city match.
I know its very young to remember but Ill never forget it! My Dad and uncle Tez came home Saterday afternoon, they had been working that morning. They told me they were taking me to Maine Road. Well to say I was excited would be putting it mildly!! It was then that my Mother told me I must have something to eat then we could go.
As I dashed into the fridge I just seemed to grab the first thing that was available which was a opened can of pineapple. The metal lid was sticking up and as I grabed the can I sliced my finger. There was blood everywhere and my mother saying “God we will have to go to the hospital”! Thats when I started to cry and roll around in pain!! To stop my screaming and crying my mum agreed to bandage up my finger and let me go to the match! We palyed Liverpool and got beat! 4-0 I think.
But it was a great day.
