The 14th of March 2004 will remain with me until my dying day. Not only was it the first time I saw the mighty blues play, but we trounced United to boot! I’ll never forget SWP’s robot dance when he scored. My Dad was crying at full time! He told me I was lucky to have been to such a massive match as my first game and he was right. We’ll win the UEFA this season!

My uncle Tony used to drive the GMT bus and so used to get a ticket for free, I was always mad keen on City and he took me along when I was 12 in Jan ‘81. FA Cup 3rd round, One of Johny Bonds first games, against the man he replaced Malcolm Allison’s Crystal Palace, grudge match or what, needless to say City triumphed and went on to lose to Spurs in one of the most memorable finals ever. We were in the side bit of the Kippax adjoining the Platt Lane stand and it was 85p at the turnstile. It was a fabulous 4-0 victory, the smell of the ale and the cigarette smoke, the noise of the crowd, the thrill of the game will stay with me forever, it was 28 years ago but I remember it like it was yesterday. I bought a Junior Blue season ticket for the next 2 years with my paper round money and have been going ever since. I love the Blues and you are the most special and loyal fans in England

I was 9 years old when I travelled to my first game with my two elder brothers. The whole trip for the three us came in for under a pound. We arrived at the ground before it opened and sat on the wall at the front of the Kippax. We lost the game 2-1 Franny Lee score a late consolation with a free kick for us. The next day we saw ourselves on the the granada big match programme.
When I was leaving Maine Road for the last time after the Southampton match by a strange quirk of fate Franny Lee was coming into the ground as I left!

I can’t actually remember whether this was in the 71-72 or the 72-73 season. At the time I was a student at Manchester Uni. and was living in a Young Ones style house just off Lloyd St. South. I’d been a follower of Crystal Palace previously but living so close to Maine Rd I thought it might be diplomatic to at least to pretend to be a City fan.City at the time were in the middle of their legendary ‘purple patch’ and were recognised as one of the top clubs in the country. This brilliant match made me a fan on the spot, and subsequent visits to see games against West Brom (3-0 I think) and a spectacularly violent Manchester Derby match which we won 3-1 confirmed my decision. I’ve been a City fan ever since, through thick and (mostly) thin. City will, I’m sure, rise to the heights again, but I feel privileged to have watched them in their great days, and hope that my son will experience them in their Second Golden Age!

Despite being born in Trafford Park and having 2 brothers who supported the reds my dad was a fanatical blue. I followed in his footsteps and after years of begging my mum to let him take me with him she finally relented when I was 11 and on September 5th 1959 my dream was realised and we got the “special” from Flixton which took us close to Maine Road.
We walked through the back alleys approaching the stadium and on seeing Maine Road for the first time my heart skipped a couple of beats!! What an amazing sight it seemed so huge.
We queued up at the turnstiles for the scoreboard end and joined a huge crowd of 43,650 to wathch City against Wolverhampton Wanderers, coincidentally the town where my grandad was born
Wolves were the reigning champions with some great players whereas we had finished just 1 point from relegation the previous season. But we did have the great Bert Trautmann in goals and Billy McAdams at centre forward and had won our 2 previous home games. So Billy McAdams scored a hat trick and Colin Barlow got one but we still lost 4-6. I was hooked for life and here is a photo of me and my two sons 50 years later before going in to see our beloved City demolish Hull City 5-1
