I think 1975 we lost to Sheffield united at home 0 1, geoff Salmond scored direct from a corner. think Asa Hartfords and Dennis Tuerts debuts, may be 1974 any help?

Wolves at home, August 1965. I was nine. I looked at the stats and City didn’t score that day even though we won 2-1 – two own goals. But I can’t say I remember that. I do remember the noise, and the smell of burgers, and the guys outside the ground calling out/singing, “half time scor-es, racing results” as though the “-es” was a separate word with the “e” pronounced. Can’t say I’ve seen every home game since by any means – but I haven’t missed many. When I can scan it in, I’ll attach a photo of the family outside Wembley for the 1970 League Cup Final.

My first City game was at Maine Road against Tranmere Rovers. We travelled with the Tranmere fans, because we are from Birkenhead, and sat in the away end. It was a great game and very hard not to stand up and cheer when City scored, though I was jumping up and down inside! It was 1-1 in the end. I had a fantastic time and was totally sold on City. The only sad thing was that our coach was bricked in the car park.

My Dad took me to City v Middlesborough on Feb 18 1950 and this is the first game I can remember. We stood on the corner of the Platt Lane and Main Stands level with the goal line and my memory is of Bert Trautmann making a great leap to save a header from Wilf Mannion. They were both distinctive blonds and the programme notes for Mannion say that he was an automatic choice for England and one of the finest inside forwards in the game. I found one of my friends selling the very programme on ebay last year and pretended to bid a huge amount for it and he let me have it for free. There are other memories of being passed over peoples’ heads and sitting on the track with a huge sergeant complete with stick watching over us. Happy days.
