I was 4 years old when my mum and dad took me to see city’s last game of the 92/93 season. We were sat in the North stand quite far back to watch city get hammered 5-2. I dont remember too much about the game but i do remember a city player shooting narrowly wide and everyone around me began clapping. I asked my dad why city fans were clapping when we hadnt scored. He turned to me and said: well it near enough a goal for a City player.

Having emigrated to Australia when I was young, I returned to London in 1977 when I was 11. Soon after, I saw a programme on Man City, which included the great Colin Bell desperately trying to recover from his knee injury, and I immediately fell in love with the Club. Alone as a Man City supporter at my school in SE London, I finally got to see my first game on 3 Nov 1979 – Man City away at Crystal Palace. I was so excited we got into the ground almost 3 hours before kick off! It was great to be with other City supporters and although we lost the game 3-2, I was amongst my own at last and had ‘come home’. I have never stopped seeing City since!

Allthough the game was a 0-0 draw, I just remember the atmosphere taking hold of me in the North Stand. We’d gone as a family and it was mine and my sister’s first game and the atmosphere was electric, espescially to me as I was only 6, and I was hooked on it – condemned to a life of ups and downs – not that i’m complaining, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

It was either in January or February and the match was a 3 o’clock kick off on a Wednesday afternoon. I was with Neil Goddard and we should have had sport that afternoon at Xaverian College but it was postponed. We think City’s match was in the afternoon because there were power problems. City won 2-0 I think, it wasn’t a great match and City’s kit was the old cotton sky blue shirt and socks with white shorts, but because they had been washed many times it was almost like a Leeds strip. The weather was very gloomy and we were in the Kippax. I have to be honest it I wasn’t thinking this is great, I’ll come here again, ‘cos I was used to watching Glossop North End! But – happy days. Now let’s shoot up the League.

My six year old son George’s first game (apart from the occasional game where he sat on my knee barely old enough to know what was occurring) was against Portsmouth last season (2008) when we won 3-1. I remember George celebrating each goal by standing on his chair and joining in the choruses of “Blue Moon2 and the chants of “easy, easy!!!” as we scored 2 eraly goals and then he even hed the gall to enquire the score of ex-Blue Sylvain Distin. I was in hysterics and swelling with pride at my true blue son!!!

1977 and City are in a 3 way battle for the champinship with Liverpool and Ipswich. A potential title decide looms at Maine Rd against Bobby Robsons Ipswich. The crowd was in excess of 42000 and for a yong lad more familar with watching Bury at Gigg lane infront of 3000 the atmosphere and buzz around the old ground was electric. A tight game saw City take the lead only for Ipswich to peg us back.Well into the second half and sat directly behind the nets in the Noth stand a corner was sent over and met by Dave I’ve got an Iron Head Watson. Nothing to unusual about that until you realise that Mr Iron head was actually stood on the edge of the 18 yard box. The ball flew towards the top corner faster than a Peter Lorimer thunderbolt and despite the valiant efforts of keeper and fullback blasted City back into the lead. City won and I was hooked. Cue 32 yrs of pain.
