My first City game was back in 1983 in the old Second Division against Derby. My brother and I had been bad lads and our single mother was at her wits end. We were asked by a family friend who was trying to help my mother out, what would put an end to this behaviour. “We want to go to City!”. It was agreed, if our behaviour improved so would our chances of going to City. Needless to say we were both true to our word and on a mild Saturday we went off to Maine Road via Victory Street. We didn’t win though, we drew 1-1 with Derek Parlane scoring our goal. Even to this day I’m sure he was looking at me during his celebrations. Come on the Blues!
