Arsenal, 1954
I was 8 years old (I am now 62). Joe Hayes was my 1st Hero. The match finished 2 – 2. Stood in Kippax. Wonderful memories.

I think Joe Hayes was my first hero too and rightly so. Didn’t he just bang them in? He would have scored far more had he not been badly injured towards the end of his career. I believe he had a fag at half time having scored the first goal at the Wembley Cup Final of ‘56. It”s an amusing anecdote isn’t it?
